At this point, we all know what Pantone® is, but just in case you’re not up to speed, this brand is an emblem in the graphic design, product, fashion, and other industries. Pantone® provides a universal language for designers to make color decisions, no matter their industry. At ingenyus*, we take it very seriously, which is why we adopt the new color as our asterisk color.
In 1962, Pantone® revolutionized the color and printing industry with a tool created by Lawrence Herbert, which identified, combined, and accurately reproduced colors. This tool quickly spread like wildfire across all sectors where color played a role.
We need to fast forward to 1999 when Pantone® introduced its first Color of the Year, which was Cerulean. The choice of this shade for the change of the millennium was due to its representation of the search for tranquility and satisfaction in a period of uncertainty.
What began as a marketing strategy to create anticipation for their color standard products has now become an annual announcement that many media outlets pick up and share as the last month of the year approaches. We were eagerly anticipating the reveal of the color for 2023.
This color of the year is selected by a committee of design experts and is presented as a reflection of the global mood based on trends and research.
New asterisk color
The color chosen for this year, 2023, is Viva Magenta 18-1750, which is a bold, clever (just like us) and inclusive color. It draws inspiration from nature and the real world. In this case, it’s inspired by cochineal red, a strong and vibrant natural dye that welcomes with strength and a rebellious spirit, according to Leatrice Eiseman, the executive director of the Pantone Color Institute.
We are welcoming this new year by updating our distinctive asterisk color to Pantone 18-1750. If you’re wondering why, it’s because we’re unconventional, rebellious, and love to innovate within the established norms. Long live Magenta!
With the update of our brand, come other changes, and one of them is the annual update of our asterisk color, depending on the color chosen by Pantone®. Stick with us and discover our new color each year.
